Our goal is simple: To create learning success stories, one student at a time.
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the Hudson Valley Resource Training Center has been helping students fulfill their dreams to become a Substance Abuse Counselor. We do this through personalized instruction, working hand-in-hand with the student’s and provide them with an individual program which most appropriately meets their needs..
In our field there are so many tragedies, but oh so many miracles. This morning I read the stats about Dutchess County overdoses and was feeling sort of down. Then I received this text from a client I worked with so many years ago. And I was reminded of how blessed I have been to work in a field that helps people change their lives.
"Every time I have good fortune in my life I think of the people that have been there for me and deserve some of the credit. I received a promotion at work and next week I start my new position as Supervisor of the outpatient program in Saint Paul. (Hazelden) Thank you for everything you have done for me. Love you!"
Would you like to become a Substance Abuse Counselor????
Need more information? Beginning a CASAC program can be your first step into a fascinating and fulfilling career, where there will never be a dull moment! I can promise you that! Helping people through their struggles with drugs and alcohol is an extremely rewarding experience. Thus being a part of people changing their lives for the better will give you such a unique sense of purpose and accomplishment. Recent research shows that one in eight people will be directly affected by addiction during their lifetime.
The first step is to enroll and begin the 350 classroom hours required for your CASAC credential. I have found that many students get entry level jobs because they are enrolled in such a course. The students get on the job training and work towards the field requirements all while getting paid. Please DON’T be discouraged by the hours of on-the-job training that is required for your full CASAC credential. You can still be hired while working towards your credential, while learning the ins and outs of case management.
Treatment providers are very open to hiring CASAC students and for many students it is the “foot in the door” to a long and rewarding career. One year from the time you begin you will receive a certificate. Then you can then begin the process to apply for a CASAC-T. (CASAC Trainee Certificate). You can find out more about this at http://www.oasas.ny.gov/sqa/credentialing/CASACCover.cfm. Many treatment providers hire CASAC-T counselors as case managers.
If you would like to observe a class at no charge, to see if a CASAC career is for you; please feel free to contact me. I can arrange for that to happen. Classes are held in Beacon on Monday & Wednesday evenings from 6-10 pm. Please give us a call with any questions you may have.
I look forward to helping you plan your new career!
